One Fine Day

So yesterday was a great day! The day before that (Wednesday) I was literally in bed all day with the worst migraine ever! Anyway, I felt completely amazing when I woke up yesterday so I was really excited. I went to work for a couple of hours then strolled around Target for about an hour. A few unnecessary purchases later, I found myself at home pulling out my Cricut. BTW, best thing to ever happen to my spare time is my Cricut machine. Jon's birthday was kinda recently so I made him a few thank you cards to send to the fabulous people who thought of my husband on his special day.
Then I wanted to make dinner. One of the worst things about "night sickness" is that my poor husband has to fend for himself most of the nights he gets home for work. While he insists he doesnt mind, I feel bad and eating out every night gets really old. Ive been developing a recipe in my head for some time and was really excited to try it out.
It was so easy and turned out so yummy! I cooked up some pasta, added fresh broccoli and bell pepper, cooked chicken breast and topped it with a thin alfredo-like sauce and cheese. Jon LOVED it!
With that said, I woke up this morning and threw up and Im starting to think my pattern is bad day, good day, bad day... Oh well, small price to pay for my very own person!

me and Jon, in the back of a cop car...

Last night, Jon and I were driving to Chiles to have dinner with some friends of ours. As we neared the restaurant, Jon sees a silhouette of a man walking in the middle of the road. When we realize he is walking across, Jon slammed on his brakes and narrowly avoided hitting him. Unfortunately, the car headed in the same direction next to us wasnt so quick to react. They hit the man who wasnt even running to get out of the way. He flew over the top of the car and landed half way in our lane. Again, we almost hit him but Jon swerved out of the way in time. If youve ever seen Meet Joe Black, you'll know exactly how it looked. We both get out, already on the phone with 911. Its raining and traffic is pilling up. The man was breathing but not responsive. Jon kept talking to him and I went to the poor girl driving who hit him who was nothing short of hysterical. All I kept thinking (and I KNEW Jon was thinking the same) was that it was almost us. WE almost hit him. I have no idea how I would have been reacting. The ambulance arrived and took him to the hospital. The officer heading up the investigation had both of us get in his car because it was raining. Ok, so we werent in the cop car because we were going to jail. But it still was weird looking over at Jon sitting next to me on that hard bench and with red and blue lights flashing all around us. We both gave our written and verbal statements and headed on our way. We havent heard if the man hit is ok. I still cant believe we saw what we saw last night. I am SO THANKFUL that Jon was paying attention. Thats actually the 2nd time we've almost hit someone walking across the street at night. Cross walks, People!!!!

13 Weeks and HORMONAL!!!

Jon has been waititng for week 13 since we found out we were pregnant because this week the baby is about the size of a medium shrimp!

Now he can call the baby his little shrimp! Haha, I love my husband.
Hormones have been raging, thats for sure. Yesterday we were sitting in Sunday School and the teacher was going around the room asking everyone's name. About 2 or 3 people before he got to me, I burst into a fit of hysterical laughter. I really cant explain what was so funny, all I know is that I literally (and quite loudly I might add) burst into a fit. Within a few seconds I had tears streaming down my face. Like, it looked like I was bawling my eyes out but instead they were laughing tears. This went on for some time until I could finally gain control back. Poor Jon had to introduce me because I couldnt even talk. He loved it of course and thought it was hilarious but everyone must have thought I was crazy!
Oh yeah, and I got my first sorta-kinda-maybe migraine last night. Best part about being preg-o? No pain medication (Im laying on the sarcasm pretty thick in case you cant tell). It was okay though. Fortunately I have an amazing husband who rubbed my feet, got me ice packs and never left my side. Thanks babe! Love you!

Here's Michigan!!!

So its taken nearly a month but here, FINALLY, are some pictures of Michigan!
This one isnt in Michigan yet, but on the way. Its the worlds largest rocking chair! Kinda random, I know, but how could we pass up seeing that?
This is a picture of some of the scenery and landscape in MI. Flowers grow wild here! That kinda blew my mind. On the ground and on trees. Its absolutely beautiful!
One of the flowers that grows wild here are tulips! A city nearby where we live has a festival every year in celebration of this flower that grows all over the town. This is one of the Tulip Time Festivals that we went to.

best 1:53 spent today!

This video completely changed my day around. The simplicity of it and the eloquence left me speechless and in tears. Please take a moment and watch this.

P.S. sorry the video doesnt quite fit right. Its driving the OCD side of me crazy! Anyone know if this is fix-able?

The heartbeat!

This morning I heard the baby's heart for the first time! I'm in Phoenix for a few days and had my very first prenatal appointment. Jon and I are having a home birth and my mother is actually going to be our midwife. So this morning, with my mom and my sister, I heard my little baby for the first time. My mom was actually amazed with how fast she was able to find the heartbeat and then how strong it was. I called Jon (who is far, far away from me in Michigan) and held the phone up to the Doppler so that he could here. As soon as I held the phone up, our little baby whipped out a furious little beat. Then, the second we took the phone away, baby slowed back down to normal. It was a really amazing blessing from the Lord.
I'm amazed with how different it is now! Before, I obviously knew I was pregnant because of my fabulous nausea and fatigue. But to actually hear that little baby beating away... its just so REAL now!
Today is week 12 and our little bun-in-the-oven is roughly the size of a lime! Right at 2 inches and just about half an ounce!

Yep, we're PREGNANT!

Jon and I found out we're pregnant! Just a couple of weeks before moving to Michigan, the test came out positive for baby-in-the-belly. I took the test early in the morning (for optimum results) and woke Jon up freaking out. After a second of coming-to, he realized what I was raving about and his face lit up like Ive never seen before. With little time for the excitement to even settle in, I was sick and making plans for baby. All I can say is thank goodness for a midwife mom! I wish every woman had the blessing of having such an intimate relationship with their pregnancy caregiver. Its made this first-time experience of ours quite calm and care-free.
We're currently right at the 3-month mark.

Our bun in the oven is roughly the size of a fig!

12 weeks in and I still find myself sick here and there, though mostly at night. I picked up some acupuncture wrists bands that have worked wonders! Eating is a lot harder than Id expected. My appetite is completely conditional; theres usually only one thing that sounds good and that one thing might make me sick to even think about later. I cant cook a meal and expect to eat it because smelling anything for too long will make me sick. I bought maternity clothes today! Its weird that I am so excited about it. But literally since the day we found out, nothing has fit. I already have a bump and those stretchy momma-to-be pants are 100% heaven sent!
The best thing about all this morning sickness, no appetite and clothes that don't fit, in about 6 months I'm gonna have a baby to show for it! Stay tuned, lots of updates coming right up! Going a month without posting has left quite a lot unsaid :)
